Spring 2012
Dear Friends in Christ,
Dumelang.
Hello.
I now have two small vocabulary books and a Eurotalk Learn Sesotho CD-ROM, and
am trying to teach myself a little Sesotho before I leave for Lesotho. Learning
a language is not easy for me, so would love your prayers for this endeavor. And
I would love your prayers as I continue to seek places to tell of God’s work
there, and of my calling to take part. There is a benefit being planned for myself
and two other missionaries for April. It will have a silent
auction and a night of live music. Please pray for its coming together, and
that it be for God’s glory. Please continue praying that full support be
brought together to send me on my way.
I
recently spent a day in prayer at Oblate Retreat Center.
Had such a sweet day of resting in God’s Presence, of His reassurance, and
direction. I spent one hour with a spiritual director as we explored what I was
hearing from God. Two of the texts given me that day were Psalm 37:5, “Commit your way to the Lord, Trust also in Him, and He
will do it” (NASB),and Proverbs 3:5-6,”Trust in the Lord with all your heart,
and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your way’s acknowledge Him,
and He will make straight your paths” (NASB). I am reminded of Habakkuk 2:3
that I was given in the fall, ”Slowly, steadily, surely, the time approaches
when the vision will be fulfilled. If it seems slow, do not despair, for these things
will surely come to pass. Just be patient! They will not be overdue a single
day!” (TLB).
I was especially seeking guidance on the
possibility of teaching part time at a
Bible college or seminary in Lesotho. AIM’s Lesotho team had asked me to
consider applying. This would be alongside the administrative, and hospitality
duties needed by the team.
A couple of years ago at a day of prayer at
Oblate I had a confirmation that God was calling me to Africa. One of the
things I had heard God say was that it
broke His heart that His children were dying without knowing who He was,
and that I was to go to those with HIV/AIDS. God is now reminding me that this
command is fulfilled, even more powerfully, not only by my going to those who
hurt in Lesotho, but by teaching and equipping the Basotho to do so. I
came away with an assurance that I should apply to teach. So I will,
trusting that those who review my resume, will do so listening to God, and that
as we all listen, God will reveal His will for this.
I
continue to hear from the team I will be joining.
Please pray for them as they continue their HIV/AIDS ministry. The team leader
writes that in the small mountain villages where most of them live, there is
rarely a week without a funeral caused by this disease. Yet, in Africa, AIM is
finding that those who live with HIV/AIDS, when they give their lives to
Christ, can witness so boldly, and with such courage and conviction, to the
life after death that Christ offers, and to God’s gracious and ever present
love. This is giving dignity and purpose to lives where these qualities can
seem lost, and is bringing others to the Lord. Praise God!
I do thank you for
your prayers and support. Both are such an encouragement, and a necessary part
of my fulfilling this calling.
